As an outdoor enthusiast, Johan began running trips in 1992. Amanzi Trails was formed in 1998 after the growth in the business resulted in him resigning from his position as a senior school teacher. He has guided over 200 trips on the Richtersveld section. He manages all logistics and operations, but is still involved in guiding as he feels that this enables more personal contact with Amanzi Trails clients.

Colleen is an ex-senior mathematics teacher and a pharmacist. She began the company with Johan in 1998 and has guided over 100 trips. Colleen is the financial and administrative director.

Darren has been working with Amanzi Trails since 2001. He is responsible for all guiding arrangements and coordinates the catering. His general knowledge of the Richtersveld environment enriches the experience of paddlers.

“Old Man River” starting working on the Orange River when the industry was in its beginning stages in 1986. He has been with Amanzi Trails since 2000. Always ready with a story from his numerous trips, he has everyone entertained and eager for more!

Kavera gained his paddling experience on the Kavango River where unlike the Orange, your problems are not rocks appearing from nowhere but are hippos and crocs! Even after a hard day on the river, Kavera always has a smile and is committed to making the trip a wonderful experience for every paddler.

When not guiding for Amanzi Trails, Wayne is either paddling another river or is in his outdoor shop in Stellenbosch. He is the prankster in the Amanzi Trails team and always has some new game to keep you entertained.
