River Rafting Equipment
Our team aims to prioritise the experience of all of our rafters. As a result, all the river rafting equipment needed for your trip is supplied by Amanzi Trails. This includes a 2-person canoe/croc, paddles and two 25-litre buckets per person for all personal items to be backed into. One 45-litre cooler box with ice is included for use per canoe/croc. Extra packing place is also available for a few additional luxuries. Our team will also provide life jackets to ensure your safety.
Over and above the basic river rafting equipment, there are a few items our team has highlighted as must-haves for your trip. For border crossing purposes, please ensure that all relevant documentation is on hand. This can include passports, visas, unabridged birth certificates and affidavits, amongst other essential paperwork. For more Cross Border Information, please click here.
What you need to bring along:
Once the nitty-gritty of this information is settled and you are across the Namibian border, here is what else you should prepare to pack:
A sleeping bag and/or mattress (this can be a mat or an inflatable mattress).
We recommend a small tent, as they are easier to transport on the rafts.
For those who would rather sleep under the stars, we recommend a groundsheet for a comfortable experience.
A torch to help navigate the location after nightfall.
Necessary eating utensils, such as plate, mug, bowl and cutlery.
A pack of 6 heavy-duty black bags.
For those visiting during summer, we recommend an old beach umbrella for shade.
Packing light is essential for this trip to maximise space. For clothing, we recommend two T-shirts, shorts and swimming costumes as well as one long-sleeved shirt.
Warmer clothing, such as a windbreaker, should be packed for the evening.
Old running shoes/crocs/aqua shoes.
A hat or cap (preferably wide-brimmed for full sun protection).
Sunglasses with ties.
A towel, kikoy or sarong.
Our team recommends biodegradable toiletries to help preserve the environment.
Sunblock and lip-ice (minimum SPF 30).
After-sun cream to remedy potential sunburn.
Insect repellent
Toilet rolls x 2
A small first aid kit, including essentials like plasters and personal medication.
Water scoop (e.g. HTH bottle)
Rope (to tie your things down if needed).
The extras:
Our river rafting equipment and list of recommended items should have you covered on the essentials you will need to enjoy and explore the stunning Orange River. However, there are a few additional optional items that our team suggests bringing along to better enjoy your experience!
Capturing the lasting memories, you will make is always a number one ‘must-have’ for first time and experienced travellers. We suggest bringing along a suitable camera for your trip to snap all your favourite views and experiences. For those who do bring along a camera or any other digital equipment, please ensure that you acquire a “dry bag” to keep these items dry.
Another optional extra for your list is gloves. The outdoors can be harsh on our hands, especially for those who are not used to it! Wearing gloves can help improve your rafting experience and give you the grip you will need to power through the paddling strength needed for the Orange River.
Our location is a prime spot for many anglers. For those visiting us to enjoy river rafting and a bit of fishing, do not forget your gear! The Orange River is home to several popular trophy fish, including smallmouth yellowfish, largemouth yellowfish, African Sharptooth catfish and many more. If you are interested in booking a trip geared towards fishing along the river, be sure to take a closer look at our fishing packages.
Last but surely not least, consider bringing along a fold-up camping chair. As the night falls in and adventure turns to relaxation, you will find that nothing beats the comfort of a camping chair as you enjoy the stunning sunset. Camping chairs are also essential around a warming fire.
